Introducing me

________________________________

I'm Paul. As of 15 February 2005 I became your Lit Gallery director, with particular responsibility for the prose galleries.

I resigned my post as Gallery Director (April 2006). I'm still going to be active in the lit community, so feel free to leave an introduction here if you want, especially if you are a prose writer. If you really want to get involved in the community, talk to ^adrift, your current prose gallery director.

Originally a Brit, I emigrated to Australia to marry an Aussie. Currently I'm living in China. My jobs have included technical drawing, caring for disabled adults, driving trucks and writing. I have a degree in English Language and Linguistics.

At present I proof-read English language papers for a Chinese geosciences journal, teach English, and I'm trying to complete a socio-linguistics doctorate. When I'm not working, studying or generally panicking about all that, I relax playing piano and saxophone, and I miss my home studio back in Australia.

I'm balding, even thinner than I used to be (it's the Chinese food) and old by dA standards. Which means I'm in my thirties. I don't think that's old.

Oh yeah. Whisky is my drink of choice, and I prefer the Scottish malts, preferably one of the islands, or a highland.

I haven't published any fiction yet, though I'm working on that. I have been published academically.

Since I'm curious, I have to ask: How did you end up in China?

...

A little about me? Well, um, let's see. My name's Todd. I'm a tall guy (6'5"), I'm from the United States, and I currently reside in the state of Kentucky (where I was born). I'm a senior at the University of Kentucky, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an emphasis on Creative Writing. I hope to attend graduate school to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing and, maybe, teach it to college students some day. I also turn to music when I want to relax; only recently have I begun teaching myself the basics of piano. I miss my girlfriend Erica, who lives in Pennsylvania. . . . Oh, and I have a gray Persian cat named Darko.

I'll save the "long walks at sunset" speech for another time. ;)

thanks for that.

My wife is finishing a PhD in palaeontology. She's accepted a post-doc at China Uni of Geosciences, in Wuhan. That's why we're here. For 2 years or so.

Wow, that sounds really cool. A great experience, too. I am envious. I've never even been out of this cursed country.

sucker! ;)

kk i'm Toni, a Yorkshire lass. I graduated from Warwick uni with a degree in politics and returned to Sheffield to join one of the big four British banks. I held various managerial roles at the bank including international manager, training manager and ended up being senior recruitment and retention manager for their call centre (eww) staff (which included some trips to India). I finished working for the bank just before Christmas and i now call myself a wannabe writer. I'm a school governor and not so long ago i ran a beaver scout colony ;)

hmm what else, i'm single and usually live with Calamity cat and Huxley dog (but my sister is staying with me at the moment). I wish i could play the piano.

I spend too much time doing geeky stuff and too much money on shampoo and pink things.

it is really cool :) Very, very different.
and there are plenty of opportunities to travel if it's your thing. Especially if you speak English, are willing to teach it, and have a TEFL or equivalent (very easy to get)...

I've often wondered about taking a year and trying the life of a writer... never quite managed however. I'll be watching your life with interest...

Right now, I wish I could play the piano too. I don't have one here. :(

I want to travel, and I'll have a chance to do so if I get accepted to the grad program I want. Part of the MFA curriculum at this particular school requires a 2-week field seminar. In the past they have travelled to Costa Rica and Ireland, among other countries.

I'm not sure how well I'd be at actually teaching the English language. How to use it, maybe, but not the actual mechanics.

I can play the piano, you know.

This never happened. It will shock you how much it never happened.

Huzzah.

I'm in Austin, Texas, and I wish I weren't poor.
